First of all, Thanks to All of YOU who made our July 21 HOTTT Summer Party such a HUGE Success! Even the LAPD officer who showed up said that it was a "Very good party!". Hundreds of people (many for the first time!), great entertainment (a Fire Spitter?, a Celebrity Blues Singer, Elton John Sing-A-Long-Guy, etc.). We had to pry people off the roof (5:00 AM) to get them to leave! So now, we've ALMOST finished cleaning the place and we're Almosssssst psychologically ready to do it again. To all Friends & Members of Gemini ManorAs some of you know, we were supposed to be presenting a "Classic Car Show & Cabaret" event on Saturday, April 28 (8:30 PM). That show (as well as a rescheduled one on May 19) has now been cancelled. We had too many difficulties in dealing with the management of the property where the show was to take place and decided that we had to pull out. We are very sorry and disappointed: a lot of time was spent on putting the show together. We also want to apologize to the large number of musicians, performers, crew and staff members that had also given of their valuable time to help make this event possible. We are trying to find another venue and, if the Gods smile on us, perhaps we will still be able to do a partial version of the show sometime in May. We’ll let all of you know if we succeed.

Summer is almost upon us and we here at The MANOR have been hard at work getting ready for our first, official Summer Event: THE MEMORIAL WEEKEND PARTY (Sunday, May 27, 2007 - 7:00 PM). We’re doing an ENORMOUS amount of re-decorating and refurbishing. More visuals, more stuff, more space - more of everything you (hopefully!) like about GEMINI MANOR!

Throughout Old Russia (before the Russian Revolution), Easter was a time of worship, rebirth and renewal. It was not just a holiday but rather a very important part of Russian culture and spiritual identity. This year, Russian Orthodox Easter falls on the same date as the rest of the Christian world. To celebrate this important date, we’re hosting a wonderful party that will feature Russian Entertainment & Food as well as many fascinating Russian guests. A traditional Easter dining table will be on display and Russian Music will be heard throughout The MANOR.
Among the tasty goodies to eat, we’ll be serving our Russian friend MASHA’S famous BORSHT! (Vegetarian & Carnivore!!) and PIROSHKI. (Come early so you don’t miss out - Russians are very hungry people!)

1. This Saturday night, April 7, we’ll be escorting a small, select number of interested people to the most beautiful Russian church service of the year! A spiritual celebration and procession filled with hundreds of people holding lit candles plus a choir of intricately blended voices and more at a traditional Russian Church. A major part of this ceremony occurs at Midnight. Please let us know if you would like to join us. We’ll be meeting at The MANOR (9:00 PM) for a short ride to the church. Please, RSVP!

* Thanks to a kind invitation from one of the talented men who work on The MANOR, I recently traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico to attend a wonderful wedding in a small, charming town called Mitla. Oaxaca is a very special, beautiful place that is filled with museums, churches, Zapotec ruins, hand-woven fabrics, clean air and, most of all, proud, resourceful people. I am very grateful to have been able to explore this special part of the world.
* A HUGE amount of work has been done on The MANOR. The newly repainted, (front) Parlour Room has a new wall section & ceiling. Several windows throughout the house have been restored. The patio has been spruced up. We can’t wait to share all the changes with you!

For about 17 years, we have had Sunday Salon Parties at The MANOR. Every other Sunday for 17 years! Rain (flooding!), riots (L. A. Riots), earthquakes (Northridge), LAPD ("What’s your name, Sir?"), etc. No matter what, we always managed to present our guests with an Alternative Entertainment Experience. From Fire & Belly Dancers to Musicians, Magicians & (???). We proudly showcased a Galaxy of Incredible Talent on Sunday nights.
We’ve enjoyed hosting these wonderful parties but, as in real life, change is inevitable. This Sunday will be the last of the (regular) Sunday Salon Parties (and it’ll be a fun one - see below!). We’ll still have events, just fewer ones (the next one will be a St. Patrick’s Party on Sunday, March 18 - 8:00 PM).
One of many reasons that we are cutting back on gatherings is the cost of these events has become difficult to continue funding. We are currently in a Membership Drive that we hope will help us add more events in the future. (We’ll be sending info out soon or you can check our website: www.geminimanor.com - "Become a Member!"). We do want to thank all of you who came, gave, partied, flirted, sang, danced and romanced and made each coming-together quite special. We hope that you enjoyed these special evenings as much as we did!

Charles Dickens (one of my favorite authors) said it best: "It was the Best of Times, it was the Worst of Times!"
2006 was like that. I was grateful for a year of personal financial stability & peace. I was saddened by the instability & hostility of the world I live in. I was grateful for the Adventures I had had this year (Oregon & Missouri - to retrieve two Classic Cars); I was deeply saddened that my dear, courageous friend Rosey Reed’s Life Adventure ended a few weeks ago. Endings; Beginnings; Roller Coasters; Feelings.
I am grateful for all the kindness, support and wonderful comments I received, this year almost past, on the work we’ve done on Gemini Manor. It means a lot to me that the many guests who’ve explored the Realm I created appreciate my efforts and like being there.
I am delighted by the many artists, artisans and workers who have contributed to the ongoing make-overs of this Private World.
I consider myself a very lucky man to have had so many Great Performers grace my home with their talents. My respect & admiration goes out to all of them.I’ve really enjoyed the parties, the special events and all of the fascinating new characters that I met by way of The Manor. You have added greatly to the Richness of my Spirit.
But, just as Gemini Manor constantly changes, so does my life.
After January of 2007, we will no longer have parties every other Sunday. For about 17 years, I have hosted these charming and hectic, creative yet taxing gatherings. The personal work that I had to put in every two weeks was becoming burdensome. (Phone calls, e-mails, party set-up & clean-up, etc.) Guests often ignored the meager ($) contributions I requested, but the costs of putting on these events kept climbing. The stress level was also starting to climb.
So, next year there will be fewer parties.
No Valentine Party in February, no South Seas Polynesian Party in June, no regular Sunday Salon / Cabaret Parties. Instead, I will be Traveling & Adventuring. (If time permits, I will write some stories about what I encounter along the way and post it on my Blog.) I will be working hard on my Classic Car & Cabaret Concept (more later). I might actually go to other people’s parties. I might actually have a life
Yes, we will still have parties & events at The MANOR - just not as often (check www.geminimanor.com - "Parties"). We hope that they will become more special this way. We hope that all of you will help us by contributing $, food or drinks at these events. Becoming a Gemini Manor Member ($30. Sem-Annual; $50. Annual) helps us tremendously. (If enough people joined, we might add a few parties!!)
So, I want to personally thank all of you who came, who lounged, who sang & laughed and carried on in my home. Thanks also to those who were critical and annoying. Thanks to all those who made me smile, flirt, get mad and wonder. It’s all part of the Mix of Life that I really enjoy.

1. A very dear, wonderful friend of The Manor, ROSEY REED, died last week (complications from cancer). In a sad world of sameness & conformity, Rosey stood out as a unique, creative instigator of life, love and inspiration. An avid horsewoman, she showed people how to ride their dreams. She is deeply missed.

TO ALL FRIENDS & MEMBERS OF GEMINI MANOR:We’re VERY hard at work decorating and preparing The MANOR for Sunday Night’s Costume Extravaganza, MASQUERADE MADNESS. But, we thought we’d take a moment off to make some announcements:
1. We’ll be giving personalized tours of Gemini Manor between 8:00 - 9:00 PM. Arrive during that period and learn a few of the many secrets that lie behind the "normal" street facade. Come dressed in your most outrageous outfits and explore a Strange, Old World filled with Unspeakable Things! (What are those old, green cars in the driveway - and what ungodly horrors are waiting inside?)
2. For those of you who like to party late, come after the Be-Witching Hour (MIDNIGHT) and get in for 5 bucks!
3. Our new, favorite charity, The Pepper Foundation - dedicated to rescuing "Special Needs" and "Hard to Place" dogs from City Shelters - will be performing at KULAK’S WOODSHED ( www.kulakswoodshed.com ) on Saturday Night, Oct. 28 (8:00 PM). KULAK’S is a mini Gemini Manor filled with charming memorabilia and wonderful performers. Check out the info below.

Invite your friends that have never been to burning man. Stop telling them about the magic- instead show them the magic!
This year we are adding an extra block to the festival, so we have room for all the new theme camps, artists and art cars. We will be lowering the noise level of sound stages by doing 4 corner sound. We will have far more performer space this year, for diverse acts such as break dancers, stilt shows, fire troupes, and belly dancers.
We will be hosting a "green area" - a place where those interested in sustainability, permaculture and environmentalism will be able to see first hand new technology and listen to speakers in this earth friendly movement.
We will have more food and beverage vendors this year, so you can come early and stay all day. We’ll make sure there will be food for all tastes- organic to carnivore.
Expect incredible art work, beautiful art cars, and delightful music - with as much diversity as burners can provide.
Decompression is an opportunity to dust off and share again playa art, performances, theme camps, photos, videos and stories from the playa; to re-connect with family and friends; and collaborate to create new art. It is, at its simplest, a reunion. But more significantly, it is a thoroughly participatory celebration of Burning Man art and community within our larger communities. And it is one of the more powerful ways many of us bring some of what is so inspiring about Burning Man to our cities and the public eye.
The street fair is also a fund raiser for the Black Rock Arts Foundation (BRAF) whose mission is to support and promote community-based interactive art through grants and exhibitions. This year marks the 4th year for the street fair in Los Angeles and expects 5000 patrons joining costumed artists and participants with multiple stages, performances, theme camps and art installations.
For parking, may we suggest several options.
There are several public parking lots located at 1st and Alameda.
then walk east down 1st street to reach our event.
On central and 1st, there is the japanese parking structure.
There is ample street parking on Santa Fe St. south of 3rd and
also N. Vignes St (north of Banning) and surrounding streets.

To All Friends & Members of GEMINI MANOR:Have you wondered what’s going on at The MANOR this month (since we’re not having any parties until Sunday, Oct. 1!)?
TIME. It’s all relative here at Gemini Manor. We finally got around to doing SPRING CLEANING (& MAINTENANCE) - and we’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished so far:
1. LOTS of painting – inside and out!
2. Concrete & brick work in the Patio. New, safer pathways!
3. Large section of roofing replaced to prepare for whatever winter brings!
4. Major clean-up of the Patio, Garden and side areas - with better lighting!
5. Several new & beautiful, decorative wood architectural features added to the outside!
6. A new, powerful electrical system has been installed. (Yes, professionally AND with an approval by a Building Inspector!!)
7. After years of pleas (with no response from them), we decided to finally evict the Termite Gang! A professional company covered the entire MANOR with an attractive, multi-colored tent (making it look like just another party!). A lethal gas was then secretly injected into the home thus carrying out an Execution Order against all of the Pests, Ghosts & Goblins that had been hiding (& partying) inside. (Don’t feel bad for them; we’ll invite a few of their spooky relatives to come for a short visit to our incredible Halloween Party on Sunday, October 29 - 8:00 PM!)
8. We’ve begun re-activating our numerous aquariums. In the coming months, you’ll see a lot of beautiful aquatic life forms gracing the inside and outside of The MANOR.
